Application Templates the next 20 out now!

CommunityMicrosoftSharePointTechnology

The rest of the templates from the fantastic 40 are now available for download. These are server admin templates which provide enhanced functionality with workflows along with customised lists and libraries. The previous 20 released were site admin templates. You may ask, what is the difference between a site admin template and a server admin template?

Basically a site admin template is created using browser based customisations in a WSS site and saving that to the template gallery. You can see this in Site administration for the site collection. Then this is available within the site template gallery.

A server admin template is when you create a new site definition of an existing one and modifying this for greater functionality. This allows more flexibility in building enhanced solutions based on the WSS platform. For example the GroupBoard workspace template is a server admin template. To deploy these templates you will use “Solution Management” option in Central Administration > Options. My previous blog post on how to deploy the GroupBoard workspace is here. You can download the templates from here. Or the Full package (40) from here.

I have a demo section on my WSS site with some of these templates setup for users to test out. Remember you will need to register on this site to get full “Contributor” rights for the Demo area. J

Ian Morrish also has these templates on his web site for users to test out.
