New Zealand SharePoint User Group Events in 2008
Season’s Greetings to everyone and best wishes for the new year.
It has been a fantastic year for SharePoint in New Zealand and rest of the world. If you are a newbie to SharePoint technologies I suggest you read this post from Joel Oleson (Senior Product Manager, SharePoint Technologies) titled 7 Years of SharePoint – a History Lesson.
From a local community perspective we really appreciate the support from all of you during last year and attending the local user groups. Currently we have 4 active user groups based in Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Bay of Plenty!.

We are currently looking at planning this year’s user group activities and would really like to get your feedback on topics of interest. There are quite a few topics that some of you have already said you’d want repeated. We are also looking for real-world stories of how you have implemented SharePoint and new speakers who are willing to present at the user groups. So please email your questions, queries to wlgspug@sharepointservices.net.nz and we will try and accommodate your requests.
Wellington January User Group Event
This month we will be hosting the event at Microsoft offices Level 12, Vodafone on the Park, 157 Lambton Quay on 24th January 2008 (Thursday). The event will start at 6PM.
This month’s session will focus on SharePoint Deployment best practices and some local case studies. We will have 2 speakers (TBC). I will send a detailed email closer to the event. I am looking to confirm attendees at for this month so please RSVP to wlgspug@sharepointservices.net.nz.
Inaugural Bay of Plenty SharePoint User Group Event
Topic: Enterprise Search capabilities of SharePoint presented by Chandima Kulathilake. Chandima will speak about his experiences with Search functionality and guidelines and tips on Search Optimisation and Planning in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS).

2008 Summer Road Trip - register now!
The NZ community rocks! As you probably know, we’ve got three big products coming out in the new year (Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008) and the community is preparing to do a major road trip around New Zealand.
Chris Auld and Jeremy Boyd - our two Regional Directors are going to be touring the country showing off all the cool stuff in Windows Server (Virtualisation, IIS, etc), SQL Server (File Stream, Spatial data types & queries, etc) and Visual Studio (LINQ, CSS designers, etc). In each location they will be joined by a local speaker and each location will have a local MC
