Service Delivery Portal

BusinessMicrosoftSharePointTechnology

This will be the last post for the year of 2005. It has been an year full of new experiences in life as well as work.

I had the opportunity to be the lead architect of our corporate SharePoint deployment and being involved right from the begining. Our D-day is 2nd February 2006. The implementation covers our regional offices in Auckland, Wellington (main office), UK and Singapore.

Our emphasis has been in providing a standardised yet flexible to customise client project management portal which hosts our client site collection. We choose SharePoint Portal Server and WSS because most our project teams were using Microsoft tools and our core network infrastructure is primarily Microsoft based. The entire project consists of deploying a new intranet to our staff which is based on Microsoft Content Management Server 2002. (MCMS2002) and the Project Management Portal is developed using SharePoint Portal Server 2003 with a customised site definitions for creating Client and Project Sites. Our core samples and templates are made available via the portal to all sites in the Site collection via custom web parts.

A significant amount of customised development was carried out to build web parts to enable and enhance existing WSS functionality. Some highlights include:

In all the concept is that we have re-usable ideas across projects and one place to discover information about the project.
